Photo Story
Voices of Central Pennsylvania is a monthly newspaper located in downtown State College. The paper is printed and delivered on the 1st of every month.
I have been interning with Voices since the fall, and thus decided to do my photo story on the process of creating the newspaper. Since the newspaper is a monthly newspaper, things are run a little differently than a traditional newspaper. The staff of the newspaper is all volunteer based and there is typically a meeting once a week to check in with the writers of the paper and to make sure that everything is on track.
Typically all the writers are assigned a topic to write about each month. It is our writer’s responsibility to set up any interviews or appointments needed and to get their article in by deadline, which is the 15th of every month. After all the stories are submitted and edited, they are laid out in Adobe InDesign by the layout designer, and before the 30th of each month, we have an editing meeting to insure that we don’t have any typos or grammatical errors in the articles.
The finished version is then sent to a printer where it is printed and delivered to various businesses and buildings on and around the Penn State campus. The paper is also distributed in other states. Then the process begins all over again for the next month.
